This has been one of the best money-saving ideas we use in our family.
Too bad it wasn't my idea.
I got it from my mama (cue song, please...) and have been asked for it A LOT....so I thought I'd share it here, too, just in case someone else would like to try it.
Homemade Wipes
Before you start, the first thing you'll need to do is cut a roll of paper towel in half.
The best paper towels to use are the ones where they rip into smaller-than-normal sheets (usually called select-a-size)...they give you the perfect sized wipes.
To cut, we just whip out the best serrated kitchen knife we've got and saw away. I've heard an exacto knife or really awesome scissors also does the job.

1 cup water
1 Tablespoon Baby Shampoo
1 Tablespoon Baby Oil
and your newly operated-on half-roll of paper towel.
Put the water, Baby Oil and Shampoo in the container of your choice. We find it fits just fine in the big regular wipes container, although it is kind of a tight squeeze until we use a bunch of them and the roll is a bit smaller. We hear that an ice cream bucket works great, too.
Give it a swish, just to semi-mix them together, and then lay your 1/2 roll of paper towel into the soapy-oily-water. I rotate it a few times so that each side lays in the water for a second or two.
Ta-daa!
And I'm sure this would work somehow with cleaners, too...to have ready-made cleaner wipes for countertops, etc.
Lemme know if you figure a 'recipe' out for those ones.

You'll find that there isn't enough liquid to soak through the whole roll, right to the core, right away. That is a-okay! After it hangs out in the container for a bit, the water stuff will have soaked right through, and you've got a whole roll of wipes ready to go.

I think we're gonna have to actually do this, and see how much we save. Thanks for the recipe! Also, one of our friends here in winnipeg makes her own wipes too, but she puts a couple of drops of tea tree oil in, and she claims that her kids have never had diaper rashes, ever...that's pretty wicked!
we do the same! except i use the electric knife to cut my paper towel in half...aweseome! and i use 2 tbsp of baby shampoo. i also use a tall and skinny tupperware container and sit the paper towl the opposite direction, take out the center, and pull out my pieces from the center. i will never go back to store bought! it's amazing how much money you can save doing this! oh...another idea...i use the millions of baby cloths that take over my house to make reusable wipes (for the pee's) and i just fold them into each other in the same wipes container you have in your pics:)
