The Babies

Renae

Like any responsible couple, Darren and Laura discussed their goals for children prior to getting married.

He wanted a few. She wanted a brood. At least they both wanted more than one! Done deal.

They discussed timing, and agreed to wait a few months to get things in order, and then seriously think about starting a family. They were excited and ready to start their life and family together. And really, had they ever really done anything at a snail's pace so far? Nope.

BUT, thanks to Laura's bad math, etc, they found themselves sitting on the bathroom floor of their basement suite, 1.5 short months after getting married, staring at a positive pregnancy test...laughing, crying, and downright surprised. Happily surprised. Well, here goes nothing! They thought with a grin and shake of their heads, Bring. it. on.

Nine months later, little Renae Deanne was born. If it was a girl they had planned to name her Rebekah, and had briefly discussed Renae as a middle name. But when she arrived, her daddy took one look at her and said She's definitely a Renae.
Thinking maybe he was confused, Laura said Really? Renae, not Rebekah?
Yeah, Renae. Definitely Renae.
Tack on her mama's middle name, and we've got a winner.

And so she was. This sweet little 7lb 7oz of baby arrived via 16hrs of labour, three hours of pushing, and then an emergency C-section....which was all worth it.

Micah

Somewhere around the 7 month mark, Laura started feeling the baby-nudgies again...y'know, when you start thinking about when you might have another one. The nudgies were pretty insistent, and she talked to Darren about it. They discussed having another one soon...that having kids close together might be a little crazy, but fun. Both on board, they decided to go for it. Little did they know: they were already a month pregnant at that point. Joke's on them! Ha! It made for a very confusing first trimester once they figured out they were indeed pregnant...and for much longer than they had expected. How did this happen? They are still baffled. Storks bring babies, right?

However, they were still very excited...albeit a little nervous about just how close their close babies were going to be. Turns out those baby-nudgies were Heavenly Father telling them to get ready for another one! NOT start thinking about maaaaybe having another one! Laura's planning on getting her baby-nudgies translator in for a tune-up.

All 9lbs 9 oz of Micah Ross arrived a few days shy of his due date via planned c-section. Micah, because Darren and Laura just loved the name, and nobody who had the name had ruined it for them in their past lives...and Ross, a passed-down family name. Ta-daa!

Renae and Micah are just shy of 16months apart. 15 and 3 weeks, if you're going for shock factor.

Either way they are both awesome. Darren and Laura feel pretty darn lucky to be their parents.

Next stop: kids fourteen months apart!
HA! kidding.
