The Arrival of Renae Deanne

Hooray! She's here! Our little bebe!
...and she's a GIRL. So much for any motherly instincts! Here I was predicting a boy the whole time. Ha!

She finally arrived, six days overdue on Friday, July 3rd, 2009 at 5:15pm. Her arrival included about three days of prodromal labour...basically three days of contractions that hurt and came every 3-15 minutes...but too inconsistently to be called "real" labour. It did its job though, albeit SLOWLY, and we were admitted to the hospital Thursday night (or early Friday morning) at around 1:00am at 4cm dialated.

When considering a picture-perfect delivery, my vision did not include any of the following: being given labour-inducing drugs, getting an epidural, using a vacuum, or having a C-section. BUUUUUTTT.....complications required the use of all four. After 14 hours of hard labour and three hours of pushing, we were whisked into the operating room.

Yuck.

But I would go through it all over again for this little stinker:

Enough of the tough stuff. The good news is that the recovery has been remarkably speedy. We busted out of the hospital early on account of our good healing behaviour: All of my bodily functions were in order (I have never had so many people ask about those before..."Can you pee?" "Have you passed gas yet?" etc.), I could walk around a little, and Renae had caught on to breastfeeding like a pro. Things continue to go well, thanks to a fantastic husband...and now father...who has taken care of us and made sure that we have been able to rest. Can I just mention how grateful I am for my Darren? Because I am. More than words can say. He has been my hero through all of this. Renae and I are two lucky little ladies to have him.

Anyways, we're so glad we finally got to meet her.
Needless to say, this little baby girl has her Daddy and I completely head-over-heels.

Yay! I was wondering when you would post pictures. Congratulations! She is absolutely adorable. Sorry to hear about the delivery. That's no fun to have things go differently than planned, but you have the right idea; she's SO worth all the struggles. I am so happy for you. You guys are going to make great parents and we can't wait to watch her grow up! Love you!
