The Prego Update. And Freezing Milk.

The Pregnancy Update:

21 weeks and feeling fabulous.
I had to push my belly out a bit for this shot so that you could see it from a distance, but the belly is there alright. We had our routine ultrasound on Monday (yay!) and the little bebe was happy and healthy...with little feet running already. Darren was going to find out the gender via secret envelope, courtesy of the technician...but the little one was determined to make his or her daddy wait for the big day: legs tightly crossed and all.

And speaking of being pregnant. I had a few weird cravings with Renae (Cheez Whiz...and a spoonful of parmesan cheese are the ones that come to mind. Ew, right?) But the one thing I cannot get enough of while I'm pregnant, with Renae and this little one is MILK.

But what I actually wanted to write about was freezing milk.
(For those who know this already, bear with me, I just have to make sure everyone else within the sound of my voice knows about it.)

You can freeze gallons of milk. Like in the freezer, in their plastic jug, just like that.
It's an ingenious trick that my mom discovered, or was told, or something. The intent is to save money by saving you trips to the grocery store for milk...where you inevitably end up spending on things you didn't really plan to buy in the first place. Or allows you to stock up when milk's on sale.

On defrosting a gallon of milk:
(....although this might need some adjusting, depending on how warm your house is)
-Take your frozen block-of-a milk jug out of the freezer. It'll look weird, and kind of yellowy, but that's okay. It'll still melt into yummy white milk.
-Leave it out on your counter (on a plate or dishtowel) from the time you wake up until you go to bed. I know, seems counter-intuitive to leave milk out all day...but I promise the ice in it will keep it frosty-cold. And totally safe to drink.
-When you go to bed, give it a good shake. This keeps you from drinking really watery milk at some points and extra-milky milk at others. Then, stick it in the fridge overnight. There might still be little chunks of ice in the morning, but nothing major.
-This is the timing that's worked best for us...basically the milk just needs a full 24 hours...with roughly half out of the fridge, and half in the fridge...AND a good shake or three....to defrost fully.

So there you have it. Pregnancy=going well...and milk=freezable.
Oh, and Renae=almost one.
Blows. Me. Away.

So crazy that Renae will be ONE!!! Isaacs and I just can't believe it!

The 24hour method is definitely the best, but if you're in a pinch you can do what mom usually did and put it in a sink of hot water. All nice and creamy for breakfast! (but watery later on...) Good to hear you're doing well! Love yous!
